3 weeks to Delhi - Woooohoooooo!!!!

Can you tell by the title of my post how excited we are? We are really looking forward to this trip. Our brother in law who was born in the Punjab had to fly back to India this week as his father who still lives in India has become ill. We will probably catch up with him when we are in India to see how he  is doing but we are hoping and praying for the best for his Dad. Our brother in law gave us some great contacts for accommodation in Agra and Jaipur (family and friends of his) so we got some good discounts. Personally I find it unbelievable that we are paying under $50 per night for a gorgeous looking hotel (complete with pool) in Jaipur including buffet breakfast each day. It is clearly very expensive to live in Australia when you compare our hotel prices to that.

We are trying to travel light during our trip so not taking the laptop and I will have to cope with 3 pairs of shoes only. Those who know me know how I love my shoes so to be able to keep my shoe selection down to 3 will be a challenge. However, our lonely planet guide book has already shown to me the locations of some reputable leather and shoe shops. I think I will end up coping!

So we are treating this like a real holiday as the first 8 days will just be sightseeing in Agra and Jaipur for us and then we come back to Delhi for the treatment appointments and legal meetings. We both cant wait to meet Dr Shivani and the SCI team and to watch them create some magic in their miracle baby making.

  2. I'm so excited for you... I'm counting down the days as well. Sounds like we have the same itinerary. Jaipur, Agra and Delhi. I still haven't decided on a hotel in Jaipur... maybe we'll just "wing it" and look around when we get there. Are you flying to Jaipur or getting a driver? I'm trying to figure that out... an adventure awaits!

    1. We are thinking of being brave and going on train from Jaipur to Agra as it is about 5 hours. We are staying at the Hotel Umaid Bhawan (3 star) in Jaipur as it had good guest reviews on trip advisor and was also listed in Lonely Planet and of course my brother in law got us a good deal. I think you can get it for about $50 per night anyway with breakfast on Expedia or one of those search engines so it's pretty good anyway. We are staying at a fancy place in Agra called Jaypee Palace ( 5 star wooohoo). We found that there were not that many places available in Agra 4-5 weeks out from our travel dates so I dont know why that was but we ended up being happy with Jaypee Palace. I cant wait to see everything and do some bargain shopping! I will blog any good places for leather and we are thinking of getting some business shirts and a suit made for the hubby...he will only wear pure cotton business shirts which are a pain to iron but they do breath better than polycotton. I love the fact that we can all join in with each other's excitement here in blog land as well as learn an incredible amount about India and surrogacy.

    2. The train should be interesting. I'll look up that hotel. A friend of mine just got back from Delhi a few weeks ago and highly recommended a tour. It's a walking tour through old Delhi and they take you to various places to sample the local food... not sure how adventurous you are but it might be interesting.(it has good reviews on trip advisor) www.delhifoodadventure.com I ended getting a good rate at Svelte through my work so that is taken care of. I wish we would be there at the same time but maybe if everything works out for both of us, we'll be there in 9 months together!!!

    1. Thanks Michael - 60 odd days will be here before you know it. We are staying in Apartment 18 where several people have recommended. I will check out the living arrangements (as they have 3 bedroom apartments) and let you know. Their rates are good as well especially if you arrange through Sucheta at SCI.
